Actinorhodin (la) is a dimeric isochromanequinone an-tibiotic produced by Streptomyces coelicolor A3 (2). 1 Its structure has been elucidated2 but the points of connection of the two identical molecular halves remained undetermined. In this note we present results establishing the biosynthesis ofthis dimeric antibiotic, from whichthe point of dimerizationmay be deduced.
