The kinetics of the replacement of the chloridein the [Pt (Me2SO)(en) Cl]+ and [Pt (NH3)(en) Cl]+ cations (Me2SO= dimethyl sulfoxide, en= 1, 2-diaminoethane) by NH3, Nf, NH2OH, N2H4, Br", I", SCN", SeCN", S032", and SC (NH2) 2 have been studied in aqueous solution at 25.0 C. Apart from the solvolytic reaction, where both substrates have similar reactivity, the Me2SO complex is at least 1 order of magnitude more labile than thatof ammonia. The reactivity difference increases with the nucleophilicityof the entering group. The greater cis effectof Me2SO arises from the greater nucleophilic discrimination factor of its complex.
