Stage A 59-year-old building contractor reported facial flushing while working at a physician's home. His blood pressure was 185/120 mm Hg. Response Facial flushing is fairly nonspecific, although the carcinoid syndrome comes to mind. The blood pressure of 185/120 mm Hg is more impressive. Were previous values this high? Stage The patient did not have a history of sustained hypertension, but on two occasions during the previous six months he had been told that his blood pressure was moderately elevated.
