The authors, from Paris, briefly show that there are individual variations in the metabolism of chloroquine (as judged by concentrations of it and its metabolite desethylchloroquine [Verdieret al., Pathologie Biologique,1984,32,5]). They also confirm that the latter is less active than its parent against chloroquine-resistantPlasmodium falciparumalthough it has similar activity to that of chloroquine against sensitive strains.
