Determining recommendations for the nutritional management of pregnancy has never been easy. When the National Academy of Sciences undertook a review of data related to nutrition during pregnancy, I was pleased to be part of the group reviewing gestational weight gain and developing new recommendations. It was a real opportunity to consider what was known and how it should influence recommendations for different groups of women.
