Sections of uninjected and injected pig embryo hearts show that the first appearance of sinusoids, coronary arteries, and veins differs only slightly from that of the rabbit. The coronary vessels invest the ventricles in a subepicardial plexus which supplies most of the ventricles by 30 mm., sending twigs between sinusoids. Sinusoids form the main circulatory channels to the ventricles in 20-mm. pig hearts, maintain connection between right and left ventricle through the 45-mm. stage, and coexist with coronary vessels through the 135-mm. stage. Regression starts at the epicardial end of the sinusoidal recesses and progresses centrally toward the main lumen. Growing trabeculae force together the 2 walls of the sinusoid which adhere, reducing the endo-thelium to a lumenless strand which later disappears. Smaller terminal recesses leave no vestige. Larger sinusoids leave in their wake a solid strand of avascular subendocardial connective tissue. Invasion of the heart by coronary vessels and regression of the sinusoids take place earlier in the wall of the left ventricle than in that of the right. The coronary vessels and sinusoids interdigitate intimately during their entire period of coexistence, but remain mutually separate except for infrequent anastomoses which are precursors of the so-called "Thebesian vessels." The adult pattern of cardiac circulation is established by 150 mm.
