Introduction. A previous paper [1] presented solutions of the Hodgkin-Huxley equations [2] for the squid giantaxon membrane, obtained with the National Bureau of Standards digital computer SEAC. A coding error has since beenfound in the SEAC program. This paper will describe the effect of this error on the computations and present corrections, as well as some new results, obtained with the Bureau’s present IBM 704. Preliminary accounts of these reeomputations have been published elsewhere [3, 4]. For a description of the equations and method of computation, the reader is referred to [1].The previously published solutionswere all for the" space clamp" ease in which all variables of state (I, V, n, m, h) were assumed to be spatially uniform over the membrane surface, varying only withtime t. Moreover, the membrane current I was specified arbitrarily as an input function (" current clamp" case). Further IBM 704 computations have since been made for the ease of thepropagated action potential, in which all variables of state are functions of x (distance alongthe axon) as well as of t, and I is proportionalto OV/Ox according to the cable equation [2].
