My purpose is to emphasize the niche that optical tomography could fill in breast cancer detection with a safe and simple technique. This niche is shown in FicURE 1, where the statistics of the gene defect, BRCA-1, show that at the age of 40, a woman carrying the BRCA-1 mutant would have the same probability of cancer as a normal woman at the comfortable age that I have achieved." So if a person is in the niche of the under-40 group, the modality of X-ray mammography may give a dangerous lifetime accumulated dosage as well as be somewhat discomforting due to hard compression to get better X-ray images. In addition, the mammogram is turned white by the collagen fibers in the breast, and it is not possible to detect cancer. The under-40-year-old BRCA-1 population have a serious diagnos-tic problem.
