A study published in the journal Allergy suggests that salivary immunoinflammatory proteins could be used as a less invasive method for identifying children with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Currently, EoE is diagnosed through invasive procedures. The study collected saliva samples from children with EoE and controls and used proximity extension analysis to analyze the proteins. The findings indicate that a panel of proteins could accurately distinguish children with EoE from controls and differentiate between different subtypes of EoE. This research suggests that salivary proteins have diagnostic potential and could serve as non-invasive biomarkers for EoE, but further research is needed to validate these findings.[Extracted from the article]Copyright of Allergy is the property of Wiley-Blackwell and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission.
