Reductions effected by metals are of considerable significance. The present review is concerned with reductions brought about by the use of magnesium, but specifically with the unipositive form of this substance. Examination of the literature reveals that such reductions fallinto two main categories:(a) those by means of unipositive magnesium anodically generated, and (b) reductions with magnesium-magnesium halide mixtures. In addition to a discussion of these topics, the effects on massive magnesium of a variety of organic radical-ions generated by unipositive magnesium are described.
