Staphylotrichum sinense, a new hyphomycete classified in the Chaetomiaceae (Ascomycota), was isolated from soil in Jianshui county, Yunnan Province. It is characterized by globose and ochreous conidia born laterally on aerial hyphae, and micronematous, unbranched and 0–1-septate conidiophores, sometimes reduced to conidiogenous cells. Morphologically,Staphylotrichum sinenseis similar toStaphylotrichum boninense, but it can be distinguished by lacking of macronematous conidiophores and having larger conidia. PhylogeneticallyStaphylotrichum sinenseformed a single clade withinStaphylotrichumspecies, and is closely related toStaphylotrichum boninenseandStaphylotrichum brevistipitatum.
