A simple, mild procedure is described for attaching proteins covalently to glass surfaces. The density of protein may be controlled and quantitated. The adhesive behavior of BHK [baby hamster kidney] cells on surfaces coated with con A [concanavalin A] is described and further applications of similar model extracellular matrices are suggested.
