Threshold measurement is the most fundamental approach in the study of the sensitivity of living organisms to motion. Such studies started more than a century ago. The variety of experimental situations is still increasing. It is believed that an attempt for a single conceptual background is necessary in order to elucidate the processes at work in motion detection.
