1. Specimens of Stephanospermum elongatum are described that yield new data on the structure of this seed. The crown is shown to be six-toothed, with three primary and three secondary teeth. Corresponding to these are three primary and three secondary buttresses which connect the teeth to the micropylar beak. The seed possesses three vertical seams which extend into the primary teeth. 2. Evidence is advanced for relegating S. stewarti to synonomy with S. elongatum. 3. Arguments are advanced for retaining Stephanospermum as a genus distinct from Pachytesta, and a proposed phylogenetic sequence is indicated for the four known species of Stephanospermum.
