The fluorescence quenching of a lipoidal pyrene derivative, by two amphiphilic quenchers, at the air-water interface, has been studied by steady-state and time-resolved methods. The results have been analyzed in the theoretical framework of diffusion-controlled quenching in a two-dimensional environment to yield the mutual lateral diffusion coefficients.
