Studied the typing stroking habits of 82 high school students, 103 college undergraduates, and 5 faculty members and secretaries at skill levels ranging between 10 and 114 words/min (wpm) in order to identify the habits that account for skill and locate the skill levels at which significant changes in stroking occur. Ss typed (using 3-min timings) a series of materials designed to identify the stroking habits employed. Typing by letter sequences within words accounted for most of the skill acquisition. Modest typing by words was found only among the only fastest typists, and phrase habits were nonexistent. Among Ss beyond cognitive stages, a range of±15 wpm around any given speed included persons whose stroking habits do not differ significantly.(13 ref)(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
