One of the extremely important problems encountered in sex biology and in clinical pathology is the question of factors which operate to control sexual periodicity. Several inveatigators in this laboratory have made intensive studies on an annual-breeding rodent (Citellus tridecemlineatus) , in order to see if the agents governing sexual rhythm could be determined; the comprehensive extent of this work has been outlined in a preliminary paper by Moore, Simmons, Wells, Zalesky and Nelson ( '34). The writer has investigated seasonal variation (under field, laboratory and experimental conditions) in the male reproductive system of this species since July, 1931. Preliminary observations proved this form to be a particularly favorable species for study, since the condition of the genital tract of normal males is such the breeding is impossible for about 10 months of the year; hence, the ground squirrel offers many experimental opportunities, which do not exist in continuous breeders. This report is a result of a study of the reproductive system from more than 500 males, however, the limited space available in this paper makes it necessary to restrict the number
