In conclusion, the results indicate that while stearate-modified electrodes have the desiredproperties for electrochemical discrimination of ascorbate and dopamine before they are implanted in braintissue, these properties are lost after implantation. Taken together, the literature data and the present findings also suggest that these electrodes are neither selective nor sensitive enough to detect dopamine levels in vivo.
