Er{sup 3+}-doped Y{sub 2}Ti{sub 2}O{sub 7} and Er{sub 2}Ti{sub 2}O{sub 7} thin films were fabricated by sol-gel spin-coating method. A well-defined pyrochlore phase Er{sub x}Y{sub 2-x}Ti{sub 2}O{sub 7} was observed while the annealing temperature exceeded 800 {sup o}C. The average transmittance of the Er{sub x}Y{sub 2-x}Ti{sub 2}O{sub 7} thin films annealed at 400 to 900 {sup o}C reduces from {approx} 87 to {approx} 77%. The refractive indices and optical band gaps of Er{sub x}Y{sub 2-x}Ti{sub 2}O{sub 7} (x = 0-2) annealed at 800 {sup o}C/1 h vary from 2.20 to 2.09 and 4.11 to 4.07 eV, respectively. The {approx} 1.53 {mu}m photoluminescence spectrum of Er{sup 3+} (5 mol%)-doped Y{sub 2}Ti{sub 2}O{sub 7} thin films annealed at 700 {sup o}C/1 h exhibits the maximum intensity and full-width at half maximum ({approx} 60 nm).
