This summary highlights the main recommendations of interest to clinicians treating patients with cardiac disease or having cardiac surgery. Recommendations on other patient groups can be found in the full version, NICE version or quick reference guide formats of the guideline (see http://guidance. nice. org. uk/CG92).RECOMMENDATIONS This is a summary of a selection of recommendations from the full guideline. There are further recommendations in the guideline on other medical patient groups (patients with stroke, cancer, central venous catheters, patients in palliative care) and for patients having surgery other than cardiac. There are also recommendations for patients with major trauma, spinal injury, lower limb plaster casts, critical care and pregnancy and post partum (see http://guidance. nice. org. uk/CG92).
