A comparison investigation on the oxidation behavior of SIMP and T91 steels exposed to oxygen saturated LBE up to 10000 h at 450 ℃ was conducted. The results show that the surface oxides formed on both steels are mainly composed of a Fe3O4outer layer and a (Fe,Cr)3O4inner layer. Under the same conditions, SIMP steel displays a better corrosion resistance than its counterpart, which was attributed to higher Si content in SIMP steel. The Si effect on reducing oxidation rate was discussed by first-principles calculations.
