A phytochemical investigation on Acremonium alternatum from the deep-sea sediment of the Western Pacific Ocean led to the isolation of eight compounds, including two bisorbicillinoids (1 and 2), two ceramides (3 and 4), and four steroids (5-8). The structures of the isolates were established mainly by detailed analysis of NMR spectroscopic data. All compounds were isolated from A. alternatum for the first time. The bisorbicillinoids 1 and 2 might be chemotaxonomic markers to differentiate A. alternatum and A. citrinum from other Acremonium species. The ceramides 3 and 4 are indicative compounds of A. alternatum, while three steroids 5, 6 and 7 could be of systematic interest to distinguish A. alternatum from other Acremonium species.
