The objective of this book, as discussed on the front cover, is to describe the utility of remote sensing for the observation and analysis of the properties of worldwide ice and snow cover. The authors approach this task in eight chapters that cover a range of topics, including discussion of the electrical properties of snow and ice, sensors and platforms, and the application of remote sensing techniques to most forms of terrestrial snow and ice; 11 color plates highlight image data and analysis techniques. The intent of this book is to present a broad outline of each topic; an extensive and generally up-to-date bibliography is provided for the more interested reader.
