Water loss rates (WLR) and oxygen consumption rates (VO (, 2)) of three altitudinally separated populations of Trimerotropis grasshoppers (Acrididae) were investigated during the summers of 1977 and 1978. Habitats for the three populations sampled ranged from low-elevation desert (T. pallidipennis) near Phoenix, Arizona to mid-elevation sagebrush (T. pallidipennis) near Gunnison, Colorado to high-elevation montane meadow (T. suffusa) near Crested Butte, Colorado.
