A peculiarity of nevi in both mice and humans is that they contain" nests" of nevus cells, and the sizes and cell numbers of these nests can be assessed by various morphometric means. Not only does it accommodate the absence of a senescence signature in nevus cells but also the fact that growth-arrested nevi can reinitiate growth under certain circumstances and give rise to melanomas.
