The spinel-type oxynitride of zinc and titanium (Zn x TiO y N z ) reduces H + to H 2 and oxidizes H 2 O to O 2 in the presence of a sacrificial electron donor and acceptor under visible light irradiation (A > 420nm). Zn x TiO y N z is a d 0 -d 10 complex oxynitride photocatalyst that has the potential to be active for water splitting under visible light.
