This article describes the accuracy of mortality and morbidity statistics for chronic non-communicable diseases in Brazil. Critics and commentaries based on national and international investigations are provided. It is concluded that although the statistics are not completely exact or accurate, they are very relevant for epidemiological evaluations. The Brazilian mortality statistics presents the similar accuracy than any other country with a long tradition in the area of health statistics.
