Twenty-eight days after an allogeneic stem cell transplant for multiple myeloma, a 54-year-old man with grade III graft versus host disease involving the gastrointestinal tract developed persistent hiccups occurring every 5 to 10 seconds except while asleep. Several medications, including chlorpromazine and baclofen, were ineffective. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain was negative. During this time, a whole-body F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) scan was performed for restaging of multiple myeloma.
