Chemical description is given of 9 derivatives of norlobelan, including lobelan itself, and of 5 derivatives closely related to norlobelan. In general, the substances show neurotropic and musculotropic action. Lobelan is the alkaloidal base from which the chief alkaloids of Lobelia inflata, lobeline, lobelamidine and lobelanine, are considered to be derived.
