In the present study, we examined the ability of the orexigenic peptide neuropeptide Y (NPY) to stimulate feeding when administered into the lateral ventricle of baboons. No increase of either meal size or total daily food intake was observed over the dose range tested (1–30 μg). These results suggest that, in the baboon, NPY may not be an orexigen as it is in other species.
