Two unique pathogens play crucial roles in gastric carcinogenesis, namelyHelicobacter pylori(H. pylori) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Gastric cancer is frequently associated with aberrant DNA hypermethylation as well as genetic alterations, and the both these infectious agents are involved in various molecular events. This chapter focuses on epigenetic aberrations in gastric cancer, including hypermethylation and its correlations with the two infectious agents as well as the recently reported histone modifications.
