The article presents an immunohistological study of cytokeratin 19 expression in regenerated junctional epithelium of rats. Cytokeratins (CK) are cytoskeletal intermediate filament proteins comprising at least 19 different polypeptides in human tissues. Under intraperitoneal anesthesia, curettage and root planing procedures were performed on the buccal gingiva of the first lower molars of male Lewis rats to remove the junctional epithelrnm (JE), sulcular epithelium and subepithelial connective tissue. In normal rat gingiva, all JE cells showed strong granular reaction products in their cytoplasm, except for same basal cells in which the reaction was weak or negative.
