Abstract Small angle tilt boundaries consisting of uniformly spaced edge dislocations were observed in cementite extracted from an annealed steel. The Burgers vector of the dislocations was identified as [0b0] from their average spacing and the tilt angle between both grains. The [0b0] type dislocation was related with two displacement vectors required in formation of (010) growth faults
