The spectroscopic behaviour of atomic systems with the spontaneous emission mode reservoir in a squeezed vacuum state rather than a thermal state has been extensively studied following the original work of Gardiner (1986). Experiments (Polzik et al, 1992) are rare. Theoretical studies on modifications to spontaneous emission, frequency shifts, resonance fluorescence spectra and statistics, probe absorption spectra and so on, for two level, three level and multiatom systems, both in free space and in cavities, are reviewed by Parkins (1993).
