Rubidium-strontium dating indicates the Barre-type granites in eastern Vermont were emplaced at least 380 x 106 years ago. This result suggests the Acadian orogeny was more abrupt than previously suspected, and is consistent with the hypothesis that the orogeny involves a collision between two sialic plates.
