The article discusses the scientific nature of the study of management, or management science. Quoting several discussions of management, the author affirms that scientific methods being applied to the study of management involve procedural methods which produce scientific knowledge, that these methods are applicable to the social world, and that it is useful to management. This article discusses some of the aspects of management science in relation to other social sciences and natural sciences through a discussion of major points in the" naturalism" debate. The author argues that management science needs to exercise more rigor in its intellectual pursuit, adopting more autonomy and utilizing epistemological and sociological methods in the examination of seemingly commonsense accounts.
