The Puckett Field is located in Pecos County, west Texas, approximately 220 miles (360 km) east-southeast of El Paso and 90 miles (145 km) southwest of Midland (Fig. 1-1). The discovery well, the Phillips Petroleum Co. No. 1 Glenna, was completed in 1952 at a total depth of 16,575 feet (5052 m), with an initial production of 12 million cubic feet of gas per day (340,000 m3) and 38 barrels of oil per day, from perforations in the Ellenburger Dolomite (Lower Ordovician) at 13,700 to 14,285 feet (4165–4343 m) (Blanchard, 1977). As of January 1979, the field had 35 producing wells.
