Goldmann (1940)、He i m Luyckx 1966,Nakajima & Kimura 1966,Weekers,LuyckxlBacus & Weekers 1966。I t in & Brawand 1968,Lowe 1968,Pallin 1969)。
Hrlmholiz (1855) was the first to describe an optical method of measuring the depth of the anterior chamber in vivo. This method was modified by Mandelstam & Sclzoler (1872), and in the same year Donders published a description of his measuring technique. Since then a number of optical methods for this purpose has been described, by Lindstedt (1914), Ulbrich (1914) Jaeger (1952) and others. Several photographic techniques have been recommended for the measurement of the depth of the anterior chamber, by Goldmann (1940), H e i m (1941), and others. It is alleged that the depth of the anterior chamber can be measured by these methods to an accuracy of 0.02 mm. The possibility of using ultrasound to make biometric measurements in ophthalmology was demonstrated by the pioneer work of Mundt & Hughes (1956) and by Oksala & Lelztinen (1957). Since the beginning of the 1960’s numerous works have been published on the measurement of intraocular distances (Yamarnoto, Namiki , Baba & Kato 1961, Franken 1961, Purnell & Sokollu 1962, Gernet 1963, 1964, 1965, Gernet & Hollwich 1968, Jansson 1963, Nover & Grote 1965. I t has been claimed that the ultrasonic measuring technique is not sufficiently accurate (Baum & Greenwood 1961, Baurn 1967). Others have found the method both suitable and accurate.
