This special issue, which contains six papers, aims to provide an overview of current developments in the spatial modelling of plants, the questions being asked, and the approaches being employed. The papers are entitled: (1) Competition among plants: concepts, individual-based modelling approaches, and a proposal for a future research strategy; (2) Predicting global change impacts on plant species' distributions: future challenges; (3) Dispersal, demography and spatial population models for conservation and control management; (4) The state of plant population modelling in light of environmental change; (5) Spatial modelling of succession-disturbance dynamics in forest ecosystems: concepts and examples; and (6) Spatial processes that maintain biodiversity in plant communities.
