L. W. BEAN mounted in the centre of a spectrometer table. On illuminating the spectrometer slit with monochromatic light the interference patterns could be clearly seen. The photographs were taken using sodium light and an Ilford HP3 plate. The same exposure, 22 hours, was given in each case.Winding on a pitch much finer than~ BA was found to be difficult. If the aluminium film is not too heavy sufficient light is transmitted for the direct image of the spectrometer slit to be seen. This is useful as it ‘marks’ the central bright fringe.
