Overlaps, used in calculation of nuclear one- and two-particle transfer are reviewed in chapters 2 and 3 respectively. Their role in the reaction amplitudes is discussed in the framework of DWBA and other reaction descriptions. General equations for the overlap factors are derived, and the asymptotic behaviour demonstrated in both cases. In the two-particle case, correlations are also evaluated and reviewed. Chapter 1 gives a less technical synopsis of the situation. The concrete cases of one or two particles outside a closed shell are treated in detail, as well as particles coupled to a vibrating or deformed core. The methods of direct solutions of coupled equations are reviewed for the one-particle case, as well as approximations, like the source term method. Expansions on discrete sets of functions, like harmonic oscillator functions or Sturm-Liouville functions are discussed both for the one and two particle overlaps. Problems of centre-of-mass motion and of the exclusion principle are considered. Sum rules and their applications are reviewed. Many-body approximations like BCS(Bogoliubov) are briefly considered as applied to overlap calculations.
