This article discusses about high mortality of cultured juvenile Japanese flounder, Paratichthys olivaceus, caused by the parasitic flagellate Ichthyobodo. The Japanese flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, is a benthic flatfish, common to the coastal waters around the Japanese Isles and adjacent regions. Its juveniles are mass-produced to enhance wild fishery populations, and for commercial net-cage and pond culture in Japan. Mass-production methods of this economically important fish have become well established. In addition, many parasites were attached to the inner surface of operculum and oral cavity, and also to the corneal epithelium of eyes. Most flagellates were removed from the fish and tnortalities stopped following a bath treatment with l00ppm formalin solution for lh.
