Seismic oceanography is a promising new tool for studies of physical oceanography which uses conventional low frequency marine seismic reflection techniques.Compared to the traditional methods of probing the ocean, they offer several advantages, such as enhanced lateral resolution, the ability to simultaneously image large sections of the ocean, and opportunities for three-dimensional and time-lapse imaging. The paper introduces the research progress on several important oceanic phenomena, including measuring thermohaline fine structure, imaging water mass boundaries, internal wave and the Kuroshio Current.Recently the seismic stacked sections are not considered as true amplitude processed,so the temperature contrasts, which are calculated by the amplitudes of post-stack sections, are not accurate. Finally,we present an idea of using new true amplitude migration method which can make the result more sense in seismic oceanography research.
