Let (V,h) be a Hermitian space over a division algebraDwhich is of index at most two over a non-Archimedean local fieldkof residue characteristic not 2. LetGbe the unitary group defined byhand letbe the adjoint involution. Suppose we are given two-invariant but not-fixed field extensionsE1andE2ofkin EndD(V) which are isomorphic under conjugation by an elementgofGand suppose that there is a pointxin the Bruhat–Tits building ofGwhich is fixed byandin the reduced building of AutD(V). ThenE1is conjugate toE2under an element of the stabilizer ofxinGifE1andE2are conjugate under an element of the stabilizer ofxin AutD(V) and a weak extra condition holds. In addition, in many cases the conjugation bygfromE1toE2can be realized as conjugation by an element of the stabilizer ofxinG. Further we give a concrete description of the canonical isomorphism from the set offixed points of the building ofGonto the building of the centralizer ofE1inG.
