The mammalian rho subfamily of small GTPases comprises nine proteins (rhoA, B, C, racl and 2, cdc42 and GZSK, rho G and TC10). The first clue to a biological function for rho proteins came from the observation that the bacterial exoenzyme, C3 transferase, which ADP-ribosylates and inactivates rho proteins, causes animal cells to lose their actin
