Apolipoprotein B (apo B) is an important protein. It is involved in the assembly and secretion of the prime triglyceride transporting lipoproteins of plasma-the chylomicrons and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) secreted from intestine and liver, respectively. Apo B also serves as a recognition signal for the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)(apo, B E) receptor-mediated endocytosis of some of the apo B-containing lipoproteins. In recent months the amino acid sequence of apo B-100 has been nearly completely deduced from the oligonucleotide sequences of a number of complementary deoxyribonucleic acids (cDNAs) isolated from human hepatic cDNA libraries. 18 As a consequence, the location along the protein sequence of the major proteolytic fragments of apo B is known2 This permits immu-
