Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, My name is Gilles Vincent and I belong to the division responsible for Community policy on water protection within the Commission of the European Communities.I shall endeavour to give you an idea of the experience that has so far been gained at Community level in the field of water protection. I shall first attempt to assess what has been achieved under this policy since it was launched almost 20 years ago, and then move on to the various measures that the Commission has recently taken or that it intends to take.
