We celebrate the 60th anniversary ofBiological Cybernetics. It has also been 30 years since “Self-organized control of bipedal locomotion by neural oscillators in unpredictable environment” was published inBiological Cybernetics(Taga et al. in Biol Cybern 65(3):147–159, 1991). I would like to look back on the creation of this paper and discuss its subsequent development and future perspectives.
