A toxic cycle, accelerated. Polyglutamine (polyQ) proteins interfere with CBP, which influences transcription and DNA repair. This may lead to more genetic instability of the trinucleotide repeats [(CAG) n], increased polyglutamine protein production, more interference with CBP function, and greater instability of expanded trinucleotide repeats.
