DiscussionFirst described in 1872, 6 PA has been a marker of severe LV dysfunction and pump failure. At the bedside, palpation of the pulse will alternate between a strong and a weak beat. PA can also be diagnosed by invasive arterial blood pressure monitoring 7 and doppler echocardiography depicting fluctuations in peak velocity independent of respirations.
